You Need a New White Shirt
We've heard it before: All women should own a classic white shirt. But what if you think white button-downs are boring? Unflattering? Or worse...not stylish? Our response is you're probably wearing the wrong one! Here, 4 versions of the closet classic that will speak to your style personality, whether you're a girly girl, a boho babe, or anything in between.
FLIRTY & FEMININE: Not all white shirts have to be stiff and uptight. Look for one in a floaty fabric with interesting detail, like lace at the bottom—wear it un-tucked and buttoned all the way up with your favorite pair of slim pants and ladylike flats.
PREPPY & PRETTY: A sleeveless button-down is obviously a great option for all your summer work looks but it can sometimes feel too country-club. To balance the preppy vibe pair it with a skirt in a strong neutral color that has an interesting silhouette (in this case, olive green and a paper-bag waist).
COOL & CLASSIC: So you've got old faithful in your closet and want a new way to wear it? Try it with a pair of brocade or printed pants, tie it at the waist, and roll up the sleeves. As long as your pants are slightly high-rise and you tie the knot at your belly button (not above) the look will read chic, not cute.
BOYISH & BOXY: A clean and modern take on the white shirt is this slightly oversized, slightly boxy number. Wear it with dark skinnies and a pair of loafers for a perfect downtown-inspired, borrowed-from-the-boys look.
